HDMI Extension Kit¶
Introduction¶
As a kind of FPC cable, the MIPI CSI cable is light, flexible, cost-effective and space-saving. However, it has some drawbacks.
Being somewhat crisp and fragile, FPC cables can develop cracks due to mechanical stress or other factors. Cracks can lead to an open circuit or a short circuit, which can affect the performance of the device.
FPC cables are also vulnerable to environmental factors such as moisture, humidity and temperature changes. These factors can affect the electrical properties and mechanical integrity of the FPC.
Electrical noise is another possible drawback of FPCs. It'll affect the performance of the FPC and other components in the device. Partly because of this, the maximum extension distance of the MIPI CSI cable is only two meters.
Therefore, a solid cable line becomes very useful in case a longer extending distance needs to be covered. That's the irreplaceable value of Arducam CSI to HDMI Cable Extension Module Kit.
Supported Cameras¶
A CSI-to-HDMI adapter set for you to break the length limitations of the MIPI CSI-2 interface and put your cameras up to 3~5 meters away from an RPI or NVIDIA Jetson Board, etc..

Tip
HDMI cables can be up to 3~5 meters depending on the backend processer, camera, and the HDMI cable specs. For longer than 5 meter application, you are recommended to use the Arducam Ethernet Extension Kit (SKU: U6248)
Quick Start Guide¶
Hardware Connection¶
- Assemble the 80mm flat cables and lock the connectors in place
- Place the camera and the adapter board back to back with the spacers, nuts and screws in the following positions.
- Connect the other adapter board to your Raspberry Pi's MIPI-CSI 2 connector
- Connect the two adapters with your HDMI cable.
Software¶
Abstract
We have adapted the HDMI extension kit based on the basic firmware of cameras, you don't need to perform complex and cumbersome operations, you only need to refer to the original operation methods and instructions of the original cameras.

Extension Solution for Multi Camera¶
Extend HAT - Pi¶
Extend the connection between the HAT and Raspberry Pi, you can consider the following method:
It transmits MIPI signal through HDMI cable, which can be transmitted farther than through FFC cable, about 3M.
